A scandal encircling a men-only benevolence dinner where hostess were allegedly floundered has raised questions about all-male business phenomena – and whether they have a place in the 21 st century.

Are all-male concludes – where the only maids are hired hostesses – acceptable if they parent much-needed funds for charity?

Scores of political leaders and business leaders say no.

Jo Swinson, deputy supervisor of the Liberal Democrat, said here Chairwomen Club dinner for 300 rich financiers was proof of a “rotten, sexist culture” in parts of the business community.

And Maria Miller, chair of the women and equalities committee, said jobs were “lip service to equality issues” by still harbouring men-only events.
